Now it seems to be a battle between the Micro Four-Third sensor of the Lumix and Olympus, and the APS-C of Sony. Would it not make better sense to arrive at a single standard at this early stage? One needs to keep in mind that with film cameras, it was the 35mm format — pioneered by Leica — that took the world by storm, rather than the larger 6×6 cm, which lingered only at the fringes of professional photography. Likewise, with better miniaturisation of sensors, it may well be the Four-Third system that carries the day, with its marginal advantage of more economical lenses offering results comparable with the larger format.
